Two migrants have died trying to cross the English Channel

Two people have died trying to cross the English Channel in a small boat from the French port of Calais to Britain, French and British authorities said. A British government spokesman confirmed that two people had died in the “tragic incident”. Another 53 people were rescued from this small boat carrying migrants and those rescued were returned to France on French ships, according to the PA news agency. Tackling illegal immigration is a priority for both the British and French governments. Last month, at least five migrants died trying to cross the English Channel from France. More than 17,000 people have crossed the Channel so far this year, according to UK Home Office figures. Source: RES
