Two people die as a result of heavy rains in Alagoas

Two people died in Alagoas, until this Sunday (3), as a result of heavy rains that hit the state, in the cities of São Miguel dos Campos and Coruripe. Another 39,285 thousand are homeless or displaced.

The concepts of homeless and homeless are different. Homeless is one who has lost his home and is in a public shelter. The homeless person had to leave his home – he did not necessarily lose it – and he is not in shelters, but at the home of a relative, friend or acquaintance, for example.

So far, 51 municipalities are in an emergency situation. Another four should be included in a decree that should be published soon: Feira Grande, Porto de Pedras, Colônia Leopoldina and Dois Riachos.

According to the state government, many federal highways were damaged, such as a stretch of the BR-104, which is heavily eroded.

Around 68 thousand locals were without power in the cities of Santana do Mundaú, Jacuípe, Major Isidoro, Murici, União dos Palmares, São José da Laje, Rio Largo, Coruripe, Branquinha, Santana do Ipanema, Palmeira dos Índios, Atalaia, Satuba, Cashew tree and Chapel.

The Government of Pernambuco announced that 3,835 people are homeless and 358 were left homeless in the cities of Água Preta, Belém de Maria, Bom Conselho, Canhotinho, Correntes, Escada, Garanhuns, Itaíba, Jaqueira, Lagoa do Ouro, Maraial, Palmares, Quipapá, Rio Formoso, Saloá and São Benedito do Sul.

According to the Executive Secretary of Civil Defense of the State, between the 1st and 2nd of July, in addition to São Benedito do Sul, the most affected municipalities were Água Preta, Águas Belas, Angelim, Barreiros, Belém de Maria, Bom Conselho, Brejão , Canhotinho, Correntes, Cortes, Escada, Garanhuns, Itaíba, Jaqueira, Jupi, Lagoa do Ouro, Maraial, Palmares, Palmerina, Quipapá, Rio Formoso, Saloá and Tamandaré.

Paulo Câmara, governor of the state, informed that he will extend the Pernambuco Aid to the municipalities of Mata Sul and Agreste affected by the latest rains.

In all, 24 cities in the interior had flooding and material damage caused by the rains this weekend.
