Two victims of the 9/11 attacks were identified 20 years later

A few days before the ceremony of paying tribute to the victims of the jihadist attacks of September 11, 2001, two victims of the attacks in New York were officially identified, thanks to a new technology for sequencing genetic material, the city announced on Tuesday.

The head of the New York forensic service clarified in a press release that she published that her lab identified the 1,646th and 1,647th victims who died at the World Trade Center.

A total of 2,753 people were killed when an al-Qaeda-linked al-Qaeda-linked al-Qaeda-linked al-Qaeda-linked al-Qaeda-linked al-Qaeda-linked al-Qaeda-linked al-Qaeda-linked al-Qaeda-linked al-Qaeda-linked al-Qaeda operative

Between them, 1,106 are still officially recognized, or 40% of the people killed in New York.

«20 years ago, we promised the families of the victims of the World Trade Center that we would do whatever it took, for as long as it took, to recognize their loved ones. With these two new recognitions, we continue to fulfill this sacred obligation“, Said Dr. Barbara Samson, the head of the forensic service of the big city.

The first victim was a woman, Dorothy Morgan, a resident of Long Island, whose remains were found in 2001 and underwent genetic testing. The second victim was a man whose remains were found in 2001, 2002 and 2006 and his identity will not be made public, because that is the wish of his family.

According to Ms. Samson, the process and techniques used for two decades to identify all the victims of the WTC attack are part of the “largest and most complex forensic investigation in history” in the United States.

Its continuation is expected to be facilitated by a new DNA sequencing technology, the so-called new generation, according to the New York forensic service.

The United States will honor the deadliest attacks in its history on Saturday, with White House resident Joe Biden weakened by the chaotic end of the war in Afghanistan, a conflict that began shortly after the 9/11 attacks. The US president is scheduled to visit all three sites where the attacks took place, which claimed the lives of a total of almost 3,000 people.
