The Department of Energy (DoE) says that US oil production should increase, but also notes that the price of a barrel should remain at a high level this year. The assessments are in the short-term report on the energy sector, published this Tuesday (10) by the agency.
The DoE says US oil production will average 11.9 million barrels per day (bpd) this year and 12.8 million bpd in 2023. With that, the country is expected to surpass the record set in 2019. , of 12.3 million bpd. Despite the advance in production, the DoE projects that a barrel of Brent will remain above US$ 100 in the current year.
According to the DoE, there is still a “high level of uncertainty in our prospects.” Even with strong U.S. production, low global inventories and continued demand for gasoline, diesel and other by-products should mean that increased supply does not have a major impact on prices “in the short term,” the department says.
