Uber users in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro can choose to travel with motorcycles starting this Thursday (5). The trip can be requested in the same way as other modalities, in the same application.
According to the company, the prices of the Uber Moto will be smaller than when ordering an UberX, the brand’s most economical and popular method. Safety features for both passengers and drivers remain the same.
According to Luciana Ceccato, the company’s marketing director in Brazil, the service has served as a complement to public transport in the places where it has been implemented.
“In addition to routine trips, there is constant use of arrivals and departures from bus, train and subway stations and terminals, proving that this is a product that also complements the displacement of users who use the public transport network”, says Ceccato.
The service has existed since November 2020 in Aracaju and Sergipe. 160 municipalities — and now all capitals in the country — already have the travel option, according to the company.
To register in the Uber application and drive in the new modality, the partner motorcyclist needs to have a definitive CNH with observation of remunerated activity (EAR).
City Hall asks for suspension of service
According to municipal management, Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) determined the notification of the company Uber for the activity of paid passenger transport by motorcycle, a service not yet regulated in the municipality.
“At the request of the mayor, the Municipal Committee for Road Use (CMUV) will contact the company to request the immediate suspension of the activity, in addition to the due clarifications by Uber, since the company did not inform the São Paulo City Hall. Paulo about the beginning of the operation of this mobility option”, he said in a statement.
The orientation, according to the municipality, is that the service be suspended until a meeting is held between the parties to understand the dynamics of the activity and carry out studies and analyzes for the feasibility of implementing the passenger transport service by motorcycles.
