Russian troops have entered the area near the former Chernobyl nuclear power plant on the Belarusian side, according to a spokesman for the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, according to Reuters.
According to the agency, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that at the moment the country’s military forces are trying to prevent the occupation of Chernobyl.
The AFP also reported that fighting was taking place near the Chernobyl nuclear waste storage facility, citing Foreign Ministry adviser Anton Geratshenko.

At the same time, the mayor of the capital Kiev said that 4 metro stations would be used as shelters for air raids, while the Ukrainian leadership in the Donetsk region said that Russian forces hit a hospital there, killing four people.
