Ukraine has become a ‘terrorist’ state, says Russian parliament speaker

The speaker of the Russian parliament’s lower house told members in a plenary session on Tuesday that Ukraine has become a “terrorist state”, according to comments posted on the website of the Duma, the lower house of the Federal Assembly.

Vyacheslav Volodin was quoted as saying that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was the head of a “criminal regime”.

Since the beginning of Moscow’s so-called “special military operation” in Ukraine, Russian authorities have sought to paint their neighbor as being controlled by anti-Russian fascists and “neo-Nazis”, but have not promoted the idea that it is a terrorist state.

Ukraine and the West say the claim is baseless propaganda used to justify a land grab.

Russian army prepares to attack Donetsk

Russian forces prepare to attack the Donetsk region after taking control of the last city in the eastern Luhansk region. Donetsk and Luhansk form the breakaway region of Donbass.

The Ukrainian defense confirmed on Sunday (3) that it had delivered the last point of resistance in the region. On the other hand, Ukraine claims it has regained control of an island considered strategic for the war, known as Cobras Island.

This Monday (4), the Ukrainian armed forces raised the flag over the recovered territory.

Cobra Island lies about 48 kilometers off the coast of Ukraine and is located close to shipping lanes that lead to the Mediterranean.
