Ukraine: Russian ship carrying grain sailed from a Turkish port

A Russian-flagged cargo ship, the Zhibek Zholy, suspected of carrying stolen Ukrainian grain, left the northwestern Turkish port of Karas late yesterday evening, according to data from ship-tracking service Refinitiv.

On Sunday, Ukraine’s ambassador to Turkey said that the Turkish authorities had seized the ship. Reuters had earlier reported that Ukraine had asked Turkey to seize the ship.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry rejected as false the information that the ship has been seized by the Turkish authorities.

Kyiv has accused Moscow of stealing grain from territories seized by Russian forces after they invaded the country in late February.

The Kremlin, which calls the invasion a “special military operation”, has previously denied that Russia has stolen Ukrainian grain.
