An official from UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, released a video on Thursday (5) showing the destruction on the streets of Khan Younis, a city in the southern Gaza Strip.
The video showed destroyed buildings and debris on the ground. See below:
Polio vaccines will be provided in the region by “more than 1,000 health workers to more than 200,000 children under the age of 10,” Louise Wateridge, UNRWA communications officer, said in a post on X.
“It’s difficult to describe the level of dedication these teams have, even under these conditions,” he added.
Reuters was able to confirm the location of the area from the buildings, roads, trees and terrain seen in the video, which match satellite imagery of the area.
It was not possible to independently verify the date the video was taken. However, Reuters footage shows that polio vaccinations in Khan Younis began on Thursday.
Palestinians gathered at several medical centers in Gaza on Thursday to vaccinate their children against polio in the second phase of the campaign.
UNRWA said the operation, which has so far seen 187,000 young people vaccinated, was facilitated by an agreement between Hamas and Israel on limited pauses in their fighting.
Almost the entire population of Gaza has been displaced amid the new Israeli offensive
