UNHCR: Ukrainian refugees to reach 1.5 million this weekend

The situation in Ukraine remains dire and the number of refugees trying to escape the Russian invasion is likely to rise to 1.5 million by the end of the weekend, compared to 1.3 million refugees who have fled the country to date. as stated by the head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grady.

“This is the fastest growing refugee crisis we have seen in Europe since the end of World War II,” Grady told Reuters in a telephone interview.

Grady also said that most of the refugees at the present time find friends, family members, but also other close associates who already live in Europe.

However, he warned that future waves of refugees would be more complex.
