The participation of young children in hunting for rabbits ended in tragedy in Mississippi, USA. An 11-year-old fell dead, when the 12-year-old sister accidentally shot the minor in the head, causing him to lose his life. Their 19-year-old stepbrother was with them.
The tragedy occurred on Saturday outside her home grandmother of the three children in the Alex Knight Road area. The 11-year-old knelt down to give her carbine to his 12-year-old sisterso that she too could shoot rabbits, but – why not – he stood up, with the result that when shot the girl, to be hit in the head, according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.
The boy was taken to Forrest General Hospital in critical condition and later flown to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, but did not make it and died.
“At this time, our investigation is ongoing,” Col. Jerry Carter, chief of law enforcement for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, told the Clarion Ledger.
“We have just learned, unfortunately, that the child has died.” It was a little girl who shot her brother,” Carter added. Officer Lance Chancellor, with the sheriff’s office, described the fatal shooting as a tragic situation, which affects everyone involved – but he said the 11-year-old victim was an organ donor, which can help save lives. “From this horrible tragedy, some children somewhere across the country will receive organ donations, which could be the gift of life.”
