Up to… zero electricity prices with the September subsidy – The tariffs by provider

The final consumer prices for electricity in September from many electricity suppliers are returning to pre-energy crisis levels, after the removal of subsidies announced yesterday morning by the Minister of Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas, while in one supplier’s case the charge will be… zero .

The increase in the subsidy to 63.9 cents per kilowatt-hour for the next month (from 33.7 cents in August) covers in most cases the increase in the cost of energy: in the case of PPC the September tariffs “freeze” at the level of August despite the jump in the market price for electricity, while for other suppliers the final charges that arise after the subsidy, if the consistency discount is also calculated, are significantly reduced or zero (in cash, the consistency discount is assigned the following month, which means that the zero charge will be finalized in October with timely payment of the bill).

Specifically, in order of market share for the top ten suppliers, the picture for September charges is as follows:

-PPC: the final charge is set at 14.9-16.1 cents per kilowatt hour (initial price 78.8 cents for the first 500 kilowatt hours and 80 cents for the next, minus 63.9 cents which is the subsidy). It is exactly the same final charge that applied in August, so the original PPC price was 48.6 cents for the first 500 kilowatt hours and 49.8 for the next, minus 33.7 cents which was the August subsidy.

-Protergia: the initial price is 78.213 cents per kilowatt-hour and it drops to 14.313 after the subsidy, compared to 21.213 cents in August. For the night current the charge is 77.855 min and decreases with the subsidy to 13.955.

-Heron: the initial price in the Generous program is 75 minutes and is set to 60 minutes with the consistency discount (20 % or 15 minutes per kilowatt hour). So with the subtraction of the subsidy, which is 63.9 cents, the tariff for consistent customers is zero (the additional difference of 3.9 cents, as explained to APE – BPE by competent sources of the company, will be deducted from the fixed amount). It goes without saying that only the energy charge is zeroed out, while the other charges for networks, utility bills, municipal fees, etc. apply as normal. The charge in this particular program in August was 13.9 cents per kilowatt hour.

-Elpedison: the initial price ranges from 1.0804 – 1.1344 euros per kilowatt hour and decreases to 4.14-9.54 minutes after subtracting the subsidy and the loyalty pass (0.4 euros per megawatt hour) applied by the company .

-NRG: Initial price 74.8-76.8 cents per kilowatt-hour, down to 10.9-12.9 cents with subsidy, compared to 16.2-23.2 cents that was the August charge.

-Watt+Volt: original price 78.4 cents, reduced to 14.5 cents with the subsidy vs. 28.3 which is the domestic tariff for August.

-Natural Gas of Greece: initial price 67.9 cents, reduced to 4 cents after the subsidy and to 2 cents per kilowatt hour for consistent customers, compared to 22.6 – 24.6 cents in August with and without the consistency discount respectively.

-Volterra: initial price 77.8 cents, final after subsidy 13.9 cents (compared to 29.3 cents in August).

-Zenith: initial value 68.7 minutes, final 4.8 minutes against 21.8 in August.

-Volton: original price 98.9 cents (93.96 with consistency discount), down to 35 cents and 30.06 cents respectively, from 22.88 cents in August.

At the same time, since September, the Ministry of Environment and Energy is proceeding to change the scale of charges for Public Utility Services included in electricity bills.

As the Minister of Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas pointed out in his statements to APE – MPE, the aim of the changes will be to limit the burden on households that use electrical heating devices (e.g. air conditioners, heat accumulators) that are energy-intensive, resulting in large consumptions during the winter. The scale for the billing of the ICOs currently applied is:

-For the first 1600 kilowatt hours in the four months, 0.0069 euros per kilowatt hour.

-For the next 400 kilowatt hours (1601-200), 0.05 euros per kilowatt hour.

-All others (2001 kilowatt hours and above), 0.085 euros per kilowatt hour.

The new scale, as the minister mentioned, will be reduced by 40-70%.

However, the HYCO charges are simultaneously increasing, as the Ministry of the Interior is proceeding with the establishment of a permanent “piggy bank” to finance subsidies to electricity consumers by imposing a levy on the HYCO charges which, as Mr. Skrekas said, will not exceed 1 minute/KWh for the household consumers. Therefore, a fee of 1 minute per tier will be added to the scale of charges for the HYKOs as it will be formed after the reductions. The fund (a risk hedging tool as mentioned by the minister) will operate on a permanent basis, in addition to the mechanism of subsidies implemented by the government since last autumn through the Energy Transition Fund in combination with the imposition of a ceiling on the revenues of power producers and the freezing of readjustment clause.
