A 15-year-old teenager was killed and three other people, including a police officer, were injured by bullets last Sunday night in the city of Washington after a concert, police said.
Ahead of the shootings, two other incidents caused panic among people who had gathered for an unlicensed concert on the occasion of the celebration of Juneteenth, the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865.
Many people were injured trying to leave the scene, Washington Police Chief Robert Cody explained.
Then the police stopped the concert.
Immediately after and despite the presence of strong police forces at the scene, shots were heard and a teenager was killed, Cody added. A police officer and two civilians were injured and taken to hospital.
There was no exchange of gunfire and the weapon used in the incident has not been found, he said.
It is unknown at this time what he meant by “assault”.
He described as “unacceptable” the fact that people who illegally possessed firearms were “in large numbers in densely populated areas”, posing a “danger to people who just want to enjoy the good weather, Father’s Day.” our city “.
“One man (with a gun) is enough; unfortunately a 15-year-old boy was killed,” Cody concluded.
Gun violence is on the rise in the United States, with the May 24 massacre at Ovalde Elementary School in Texas being one of the most tragic. 19 students and two teachers were killed then.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 20,000 people have lost their lives to gunfire in the United States, many of whom have committed suicide, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
