In the first half of 2021, United States Customs and Border Protection seized approximately 360,000 counterfeit AirPods. The total value of the confiscated products is about $ 62.2 million. It is also reported that over the past year, US customs officials confiscated 295,000 counterfeit AirPods.
The Apple AirPods are one of the most successful devices of the Cupertino-based company, so they are very actively counterfeited. The US Customs and Border Protection claims that such products are intended to trick unsuspecting consumers into receiving a counterfeit and substandard product for the price of the original device.
It is also reported that 80% of counterfeit devices come to the United States from China. Last year, there was an incident in which customs officials seized about 2,000 fake Apple AirPods, which turned out to be original OnePlus Buds, without admitting their mistake.
The US Customs and Border Protection is expected to confiscate up to 600,000 counterfeit AirPods by the end of the year.
