US election: Trump’s campaign site hacked

The campaign site of US President Donald Trump, a candidate for re-election, was briefly hacked on Tuesday, one week before the poll. “This site has been seized,” read a message posted for a few minutes on a page on donaldjtrump.com. “The world is fed up with the false information spread by the president every day.”

The authors of the hack then claimed to have confidential information about Donald Trump and his government, and requested the payment of cryptocurrency to reveal its contents.

Trump 2020 campaign spokesperson Tim Murtaugh confirmed the hack in a statement and said he is working with police to find the source. “No sensitive data was exposed because the site does not host any,” he said, adding that the site had been restored.
