US: Initial jobless claims fall to lowest since June

  • Jobless claims fall to 222,000 in the week of September 3.
  • Continued orders reach maximum since April.
  • Focus on the ECB, Lagarde and Powell; the dollar volatile, although around familiar levels.

The United States Department of Labor reported that initial claims for unemployment benefits they fell by 6,000 in the week ended September 3 to 222,000, better than the 240,000 market consensus. The data is the lowest since June.

The continued claims for unemployment benefit they increased by 36,000, to 1,473,000, higher than the 1,435,000 expected. This is the highest figure since April.

The dollar did not register significant changes after the report. The focus of the operators is on what the decision of the European Central Bank left behind and they await the press conference by Christine Lagarde and then it will be the turn of a presentation by Jerome Powell, the president of the Federal Reserve.
