US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday that the US has seen “very credible reports of deliberate attacks on civilians” in Ukraine that would be considered a war crime.
“Jake, we have seen very credible reports of deliberate attacks on civilians constituting a war crime. We’ve seen very credible reports about the use of certain weapons,” Blinken told Jake Tapper of CNNin the “State of the Union”.
“And what we are doing now is documenting all of that, putting it all together, analyzing it and ensuring that as the people and the appropriate organizations and institutions investigate whether war crimes have been or are being committed, we can support whatever it is that they are doing. So now we’re looking at these reports. They are very reliable and we are documenting everything.”
Blinken’s assertion follows US President Joe Biden’s comments last week that Russia was intentionally targeting civilians in attacks on Ukraine.
