US: JOLTS job openings come in at 8,184,000 in June, above expectations

The survey of US JOLTS job openings moderated in June to 8,184,000although the May figure has been revised upwards, reaching 8,230,000 from the 8,140,000 published a month ago, according to the Department of Labor Statistics.

During the month, the number of hires and the total number of terminations remained virtually unchanged at 5.3 million and 5.1 million, respectively. Regarding terminations, quits (3.3 million) and layoffs and terminations (1.5 million) remained virtually unchanged. This release includes estimates of the number and rate of job openings, hirings, and terminations for the nonfarm sector as a whole, by industry, and by establishment size.

Dollar reaction

The Dollar Index (DXY) has risen on the data to around 104.80, approaching the three-week highs reached at midday in Europe.
