US judge denies bail to Luigi Mangione, suspected of killing CEO in New York

Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was denied bail during a hearing this Tuesday (10) and is now fighting extradition to New York.

A Pennsylvania court gave him 14 days to file a writ of habeas corpus, and a hearing will be scheduled if he does so.

Mangione will be held at Huntingdon State Correctional Institution in Pennsylvania. Prosecutors have 30 days to obtain a warrant from the governor.

Mangione arrived at court this Tuesday (10), screaming.

He could be heard shouting at one point: “…an insult to the intelligence of the American people.”

THE CNN is working to determine what else Mangione shouted as he was escorted inside.

New York prosecutors charged Mangione with murder, hours after he was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Monday (9).

The 26-year-old Ivy League university graduate also faces two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged document and one count of third-degree criminal possession of a firearm , court documents show.

The murder of Brian Thompson outside an investor conference in Manhattan, New York, triggered an exhaustive search operation, with New York police sweeping the city for evidence and analyzing thousands of hours of footage.

The capture came after five days, on Monday morning, when an employee at a McDonald’s in Altoona, about 230 miles from the hotel where the shooting happened, called police saying they had identified the suspect.
