US midterms: Republicans lead in the closest races

The Republicans need a net gain of a single seat in the 2022 US midterm elections to win the Senatesince the most progressive states are showing a very tight result.

In the race for a US Senate seat in Iowa, Republican incumbent Grassley defeated Democratic challenger Franken.

In Missouri, Republican Eric Schmitt beat Democrat Trudy Busch Valentine for the senator seat held by Republicans.

According to the Edison Research Projection, Republicans have won five net seats in the US House of Representatives previously held by Democrats, with 191 of 435 races still undecided.

Republican Governor Kemp wins re-election in Georgia, according to NBC News.

Democrat Maggie Hassan wins re-election to the Senate in New Hampshire, according to NBC News.

Republican JD Vance wins the Senate race in Ohio, defeating Democrat Tim Ryan.

According to CNN projections, Tom Kean Jr. defeats Tom Malinowski in a key New Jersey House district.

Democrat Vicente González defeats Mayra Flores in Texas.

John Fetterman wins the disputed Pennsylvania Senate race, defeating Dr. Mehmet Oz.

Market reaction

Despite the increasing odds of Republicans holding Congress, the Dollar Index is getting a fresh bid as it bounces off daily lows. The indicator is trading at 109.76, up 0.12% on the day. Meanwhile, risk sentiment appears to have taken a hit, reflected in the 0.20% drop in US S&P 500 futures.
