An increase was recorded in 2021 the number of births in USA for the first time in seven years, according to provisional data released on Tuesday (24/5) by the US health authorities.
About 3,659,289 births recorded in the country in 2021, or about 1% more than in 2020, announced the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS).
As of 2014, the number of births had not stopped declining in the US, averaging 2% per year, and still by 4% in 2020.

The coronavirus brought a decrease in births
The decline in births in 2020 has certainly been exacerbated by the pandemic coronavirusaccording to US authorities, although there was an underlying trend.
It can also be the fact that the couples temporarily postponed their plans to have a child that year to feed the increase observed in 2021.
The fertility rate in 2021 was 1.66 children per woman, which also increased by 1% compared to the previous year – during which the lowest level was recorded.
Despite this slight increase, this fertility rate remains well below what is needed to renew a generation (2.1 children per woman), while the US has been below it since 1971.
Among adolescents aged 15 to 19, the birth rate fell again to the lowest level of 14.4 births per 1,000 women (-6% compared to 2020).
The birth rate for this age group has dropped by 65% since 2007, and has not stopped falling since that year, according to the NCHS.
Meanwhile, the rate of premature births increased by 4% in 2021 compared to the previous year, reaching its highest level since at least 2007.
