Voters in Kansasconservative state, stood in favor of constitutional welfare for abortionin the first major proceeding on this issue since the Supreme Court overturned his decision that vested the right at the federal level.

The state’s voters rejected a proposal to revise the state constitution that would have replaced the existing text in the fundamental law and would have paved the way for either tighter restrictions on abortion or a ban on the procedure.

62% of voters rejected the proposal, while 38% supported her, with 78% of the predicted votes having been counted.

Abortion rights: Joe Biden hails the result of the vote in Kansas

The American president Joe Bidenas reported by APE-MPE, expressed her satisfaction of Kansas voters rejecting a proposal to revise the state Constitution that would have paved the way for the abolition of the right to abortion or the imposition of much tighter restrictions on medical procedures of that nature.

Biden said the victory of abortion rights defenders in Kansas, a deeply conservative state, shows that “a majority of Americans agree that women should have access” to such procedures.

Congress should listen to the will of the American people and restore welfare” struck down by the Supreme Court in June, reversing its decision in Roe v. Wade (1973) that enshrined the right, the Democratic president added.

Yesterday’s process was the first statewide referendum since the Supreme Court decision, where conservatives hold a majority. It has been closely watched as it is seen as an early indicator of whether and to what extent the abortion issue will mobilize voters ahead of November’s midterm elections.
