USA: Jury found Gislein Maxwell guilty in her juvenile trafficking trial

Former British secular Gislein Maxwell was found guilty last Wednesday by a jury in New York of a series of sexual crimes, mainly for trafficking underage girls for the benefit of the late broker Jeffrey Epstein.

Ms Maxwell, 60, has been on trial in a Manhattan federal court since late November and faces six counts, most notably supplying girls to her ex-partner for sexual exploitation. Epstein died in prison in 2019. He faces up to tens of years in prison.

After 40 hours of five days of deliberation, “the jury unanimously found Gislein Maxwell guilty of one of the worst crimes imaginable – facilitating and participating in child sexual abuse,” a press release said. released by Manhattan District Attorney Damian Williams.

These crimes “were committed together with her partner and accomplice, Jeffrey Epstein”, who committed suicide in a Manhattan jail in August 2019, before being brought before a court for sexual crimes.

“The road to justice has been very long. But justice has been done,” the prosecutor added, adding that “girls’ courage” who in the meantime “became women” referred to four of the victims who testified during the trial. Mrs Maxwell’s trial, which lasted three weeks.

The daughter of press tycoon Robert Maxwell was remanded in custody in New York in the summer of 2020. The crimes for which he was convicted carry a sentence of up to 65 years in prison. The length of her sentence will be announced at a later date.
