Most children in the United States are infected with the coronavirus, according to a study published by the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In particular, more than 140 million Americans have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, according to estimates in this report, which is based on blood tests that revealed the presence of antibodies. By comparison, some 79.15 million laboratory-confirmed cases have been officially recorded.
These estimates indicate that approximately 43% of U.S. citizens are infected with the virus. However, the rate of infections is much higher in young children and adolescents: it stands at 58% in the age groups 0-11 years and 12-17 years, according to the study.
The United States is by far the worst death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic worldwide: nearly 957,000 people have died from the coronavirus.
