USP Book Party starts new digital edition with 225 publishers

A new edition of the Book Festival at the University of São Paulo (USP) began this Monday (8) again in virtual format.

The traditional university fair, which brings together publishers offering titles with at least 50% off and celebrates its 23rd edition, will be made entirely online for the second time – the first was in 2020, a change caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Editora da USP (Edusp), promoter of the event and also a participant in the Party, there are 225 participating publishers between November 8th and 15th.

The entire available catalog can be seen on the Festa’s website (access here), as well as the links that redirect those interested to the publishers’ virtual stores.

USP also released estimates on sales this year, with a forecast increase of 20%. Edusp, for example, had a 69% jump in books sold between the in-person edition of 2019 and the virtual edition of 2020.

The organization of the event associates a possible greater success of the edition with recent data, which show a 39% increase in book sales in Brazil, according to a survey by the National Union of Book Publishers (Snel).

Regina Brandão, communication technician at Edusp, told Jornal da USP that around 600,000 unique users accessed the site during the event last year.

There was also a growth from 181 to 225 publishers this year due to the presence of 28 university publishers from various states who managed to make their catalog available to a public that generally gathered at the fair in São Paulo to acquire the titles.

The Party brings together from the most commercial publishers to those specialized in the academic market. See the list of all participating publishers this year.
