“The Greek government is taking legal action against this process. We have been cooperating with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dendias, for a long time. Our country will take legal action in the European fora, will defend its position in America and in all Countries”. This was stated by the Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, referring to the issue that has arisen with the term “Turkaegean” in an interview given to ERT.
“This move runs counter to their leadership and the way things are handled, as Turkish travelers and tourists have filled the Greek islands of Mytilene and Kos and Chios and Samos and are voting for Greece. So maybe that should be the case.” “Those who have the political initiatives and the corresponding attitudes should think about it”, stressed Mr. Kikilias.
The Minister of Tourism referred to the data showing an increase in arrivals and revenues from tourism in the first half of 2022 compared to 2019, noting that despite the fact that this year we are facing problems that did not exist before the pandemic (energy, accuracy, war in Ukraine), both the data so far and the messages coming in for the coming months are impressive, which means that the previous Ministry of Tourism’s plan is bearing fruit. This strategy, Mr. Kikilias pointed out, had two objectives: First, to upgrade the tourist product and attract travelers who spend a lot of money on their holidays and second, to extend the tourist season (the cruise has already reached 10 months) .
Finally, regarding the delays observed at European airports due to staff shortages, the Minister of Tourism underlined that he is in constant contact with the airport managers and the Minister of Transport, Costas Karamanlis, and expressed his satisfaction that there is no similar problem in Greece. which is very important as the airport is the traveler’s first contact with our country.
