The creation of the appropriate conditions for Athens to become even more prominent, not just as a stopover for visitors but as a destination, for the benefit of professionals in the area, was at the heart of yesterday’s meeting of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, with the participation of the Minister Of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, the president of EOT, Angelas Gerekou, and representatives of tourism organizations from all over Greece.

What is happening now in Athens did not happen by chance. In the city center, in Monastiraki In Plaka, the heart of the capital’s trade and entrepreneurship beats in. This area hurts me a lot because it tried to withstand successive economic crises, fiscal policies, a pandemic, now an energy crisis in recent years, so it is an area that needs special care and I’m glad to hear professionals tell me that for the first time in so many years, tourists are coming and not even asking how much it costs to buy what they want to buy. the end of autumn “.
He added: “We at the Ministry of Tourism are preparing interventions and I am very happy for the initiatives of professionals, EOT and the Municipality of Athens that are taken to stimulate this product even in the months when tourism is at a turning point, such as November or February. We will try to implement policy all year round. For the first time in its history, EOT is campaigning for the Greek tourism product for 12 months. roads”.
For her part, the president of EOT, Angela Gerekou, presented the actions of EOT, the national portal of our country, with the aim of highlighting Athens and other urban centers and Greece as a whole, with a holistic approach and a campaign 12 months. “We focus on the promotion of Athens in quality terms, for the whole year, and with cultural actions”, the president explained, looking forward to positive results and for the benefit of the market.
Mrs. Gerekou referred extensively to the initiative of reviving the institution “Sound & Light”, expressing her joy and satisfaction for the cooperation with the chamber, an organization, as she said, “that does not just dream or designs a project but implements them”.
The Minister also stressed the importance of synergies: “In order to have good results, I want to ask that we all be together in this effort and that we manage to have a balance between residents, professionals and tourists. Now that there is income from tourism, it should be given. “Attention to the health sector as well. A center without residents is not a center, it has no life, so it does not have purchasing power. So, there must be balance and I urge you to make this effort as a whole.”
