V. Meimarakis in the European Parliament: We received Rafale to protect the European borders

The priorities of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU were mentioned during his speech at the Plenary Session of the European Parliament, which takes place in Strasbourg in the presence of the French President Emmanuel Macron, the Vice President of the EPP Central Committee, Vangelis Meimarakis.

According to a relevant announcement, “he made special reference to the crucial market of Rafale, which arrived today in Greece and aim at the protection and defense of its borders, which are also the borders of Europe”.

The whole intervention follows:

“Mr President of the French Republic,

The challenges that the French Presidency is called upon to manage, at this critical juncture for Europe and for the world at large, are significant, unprecedented and multidimensional.

Immigration, which concerns the countries of the South and especially my homeland Greece, but also the need to shield and strengthen the external borders of the European Union, are key objectives of the French Presidency and we will all work together for the next six months to we succeed.

And I want to point out to you that today we received the Rafale, to defend and protect the borders of Greece, which is the border of Europe.

These priorities of the French Presidency are synonymous with the aspirations of the European edifice. But the bet it is called upon to win is to transform these claims into collective European policies, which will be durable over time and through which Europe will be able to claim its rightful place in the international arena.

“The changes envisioned by the French Presidency are at the same time a strong and clear message to all those seeking destabilization and division.”
