The United States Embassy in Brazil released a statement on Wednesday night (6) saying that the American government supports a peaceful resolution of the border dispute between Venezuela and Guyana, including through the International Court of Justice.
The demonstration comes days after the United States Department of State reported that “this is not something that will be resolved by a referendum”.
It also comes the day after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro declared the territory of Essequibo as belonging to the country, and not Guyana.

Venezuela condemned, this Wednesday (6), the recent statements by the President of Guyana, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and warned that “in an irresponsible manner” the “green light” was given to the presence of the United States Southern Command in the Essequibo region. .
Through a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), Venezuelan Chancellor Yvan Gil highlighted that Guyana maintains “a de facto occupation and a territorial dispute with Venezuela, which must be resolved through the 1966 Geneva Agreement”.
“The Cooperative Republic of Guyana recklessly attacks International Law, carrying out actions that aggravate the territorial controversy and that add to its illegal conduct of granting oil exploration rights to Exxon Mobil in a sea pending delimitation with Venezuela,” he added the text.
