Venezuela’s attorney general said this Wednesday (06) that he issued three arrest warrants for members of the campaign of opposition presidential candidate Maria Corina Machado, for crimes of treason.
The warrants for Henry Alviarez, Claudia Macero and Pedro Urruchurtu are for crimes including treason, conspiracy and money laundering, Attorney General Tarek Saab said during a statement on state television.
A lawyer for the opposition party Vente Venezuela said the three people always acted correctly.
According to the attorney general, the officials, along with Roberto Abdul, a member of the committee that planned the primary where Machado was elected opposition candidate, participated in “destabilizing” actions against a recent referendum vote on a territorial dispute with Guyana.
Also according to Saab, the four would have had support from the company Exxon Mobil for their activities.
