The National Assembly of Venezuela decided to request this Tuesday (14) the National Electoral Council (CNE) to reject the participation of the European Union as an independent observer in the presidential elections in the country, which are scheduled for July 28.
The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, proposed to the deputies that they send a statement on behalf of the Board of Directors of the National Assembly to Elvis Amoroso, president of the CNE, to withdraw the invitation to the European bloc for being “rude, bastards, scoundrels, illegals, illegitimate.”
A CNN contacted representatives of the European Union and awaits their response.
Rodríguez's new accusations come after the EU decided, on Monday (13), to lift sanctions against Amoroso and three other former CNE employees: Socorro Elizabeth Hernández, Xavier Antonio Moreno and Leonardo Enrique Morales.
However, the bloc maintained measures against several other officials, in addition to restricting arms sales to Venezuela.
Amoroso rejected the bloc's decision and described it as immoral, as, for him, sanctions should be removed for the entire country.
The measure provides for the temporary suspension of travel restrictions on these people, so that the EU can establish an observation mission for the presidential elections.
