A certain consistency must be recognized. Georgina Rodríguez is invited to Venice Film Festival 2023, and she comes up with the beautiful and original idea of (dis)dressing as a cult character from an equally cult film. What better context, one might say.
Because it’s not a simple allusion or a vague echo: the red dress in which the actress, model and showgirl slipped to attend the screening of the film Aeneasdirected by Pietro Castellitto (especially paired with a pair of long white gloves) is a clear homage to the one worn by Julia Vivian Roberts in the eternal and timeless Pretty Woman. In the memorable scene, if it were ever necessary to specify it, of his first evening at the opera, alongside – let’s call him that – Prince Charming Richard Gere. Where the word “homage” can be replaced with “remake” with complete peace of mind.

But if Georgina deserves the flash of genius of having chosen this very dress for an occasion of such wide and tempting visibility, the brand vetements instead it belongs to having created it: a gimmick that we would now like to be replicated with all the great classics of the seventh art. Because, after all, let’s face it: better a beautiful dress, even if “copied” from a very recognizable cult of the past, rather than a brand new and very original one, but so-so.
Great revival of a (until now) menswear classic on the red carpet of Priscilla, by the (there’s no doubt about it) the chicest of Italian actresses, Kasia Smutniak. Fascinate even covered from head to toe. Neck included

And we are certainly not referring, to avoid any misunderstanding, to the other red dress that dominated the red carpet of the seventh evening of Venice 2023i.e. the signed one Prada Of Blessed Porcaroli: both old school the first and contemporary the second; both hyper-feminine the former and conceptual the latter. The former is as sensual as the latter is rigorous and essential. Better one or the other? To each his own, that’s not the question. Beauty is, once again, variety, difference, the possibility of being (and wearing) what most corresponds to us.
