(Much) of Hollywood is missing, but the 2023 Venice Film Festival is proceeding quickly. The competition is now officially open: the beautiful kicked off the dance Commander, the story of Salvatore Todaro now tailored to Pierfrancesco Favino. A strong and very human film, which saw the actor walk the red carpet accompanied by his family: Anna Ferzetti and their daughter Lea. And then the director Edoardo De Angelis, Silvia D’Amico, Cecilia Bertozzi.
The cast, as per tradition, arrived last and first to animate the red carpet were other colleagues, directors, influencers and politicians. In fact, both Matteo Salvini accompanied by his girlfriend Francesca Verdini and Matteo Renzi together with his wife Agnese Landini landed on the Lido.
And then the director Liliana Cavani, awarded tonight with the Golden Lion. «I am the first woman to receive this award, I find that is not entirely fair. There are screenwriters and directors who work as well as men: we give them the chance to be seen,” he said from the stage.
The godmother did the honors, Caterina Murino, who hid her emotion well, also thanks to a red dress. She greeted in the room «women and talented men who give an undelegable contribution to algorithms». A clear reference to the Hollywood strike also against artificial intelligence.
It’s an unusual edition, you can’t turn a blind eye to it. From the (low) temperature, to the rain on the eve, to the absences that cannot be overlooked. But Venice 2023 is alive and we are only at the beginning.
