The demand for holidays in Greece is constantly rising and this can be seen from the planning of seats on incoming international flights. According to the data of the recovery tracker published by the SETE Institute, in the week from June 6 to June 12, the planned seats of the airlines reached 730 thousand, in the week that we go through 776 thousand, in the week from June 20 to on the 26th of the month at 810 thousand and from June 27 to July 3 at 875 thousand.
The United Kingdom tops the list, followed by Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus and the United States.
As for the airports with the highest traffic, Athens is ahead, followed by Heraklion, Rhodes, Corfu, Thessaloniki, Kos, Chania, Zakynthos, Santorini, Mykonos and Kefalonia.
Smiles at airports
Passenger traffic at the 14 regional airports managed by Fraport Greece reached 96% in 2019. In fact, the airports of Santorini, Rhodes and Aktio already have better performance.
In May, passenger traffic amounted to 2.96 million passengers, compared to 3.1 million passengers in 2019, with the reduction reaching only 4.4%. Compared to May last year, an increase of 527.2% is recorded.
In the first five months of the year, passenger traffic at the 14 regional airports reached 5.68 million passengers, compared to 6.46 million passengers (a decrease of 12% compared to 2019). Santorini and Rhodes record an increase of 5.1% and 1.2% this year in May compared to May 2019, while a large increase of 26% was recorded at Aktio airport,
According to estimates by Fraport Greece and if there are no external negative conditions, as its executives claim, this year the traffic can recover this year and in the whole year 80% – 85% of the 2019 traffic.
In 2019, the 14 regional airports handled, for the first time, more than 30 million passengers, while in 2020 there was a large decrease (-71.4%), with 8.61 million passengers, due to the pandemic.
The fullness is rising
As long as the planes are full, so are the hotels. According to ITEP data for the recording of the basic parameters of average price and occupancy of Greek hotels, in May the percentage of open hotels was 88%, the average occupancy in open hotels 49.1%, the average occupancy with reduction in all hotels in 40.8% and the average price of a double room is € 82.
