American Express Italia, after the success of the first edition, launches for the second year “I travel to italy”, a project dedicated to the rediscovery of the beauties of our country, to inspire the Italians who this year will travel especially in Italy and guide them in choosing their summer destinations. The initiative aims to support the restart of Italian tourism, enhancing the natural and artistic wonders of our territory, through the story of 10 itineraries selected by Condé Nast Traveler Italy available on the americanexpress.it/viaggioinitalia website, which suggest unique places and unmissable destinations.
The itineraries want to be a reference point for travelers in this all-Italian summer, as confirmed by the survey commissioned by American Express to Nielsen, which shows how the preferred destination for summer holidays will be Italy for 82% of consumers who have already booked or planned their travels. The favorite destination is the sea for 81% of the interviewees, followed by the mountains (32%), the big cities of art (19%) and the small villages (19%), to the rediscovery of more regions of the Bel Paese, moving during their trip (44%). 56% confirmed that they have already planned their trips for the next few months, preferring day trips (71%), short and weekend stays (71%), one week stays (70%) and longer holidays (56%) .
This year the Italians are looking for mainly relaxation from their holidays (68%), but also good food and an excellent food and wine offer as only Italy can offer (53%). Contact with nature remains a very important element and guides the choice of destination for 46% of the interviewees, as well as the presence of small villages (26%) rich in history and cities of art nearby (21%). There is also a strong focus on safety, an important factor in the choice of destination for half of the interviewees and also the search for places that are not crowded is a priority for 93% of people. Trends confirmed by the preference of small local realities such as agritourisms and B & Bs (42%) and independent apartments (27%) for their stays and the desire to travel with their own means (71%) to reach the destinations booked. The preferred booking channel is online for 60% of vacationers and the most used payment method is credit cards for half of them. The vacation budget has instead increased compared to last year for 31% of respondents, while it remains unchanged for 53%.
