The first graduates of the master’s program in blockchain from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) received their diplomas. The program was implemented with the assistance of IBM, Norilsk Nickel and the Idea Competence Center.
The program was launched in 2019. The training, designed for two years, took place in full-time format. The specialists received a training grant and a scholarship from Norilsk Nickel. The program participants studied the principles of blockchain operation, the structure of individual projects based on this technology, cryptography and information security systems. In addition, the curriculum included game theory, tokenomics, and other disciplines to demonstrate, through concrete examples, the relationship of blockchain to economics, finance, and jurisprudence.
“This master’s program became the first full-fledged study program in the field of information technology and blockchain in Russia. This direction is not only of interest from the point of view of research and practical application. There are many promising disciplines that are closely related to blockchain, ”said program manager Vladimir Gorgadze.
He added that the educators who took part in the educational initiative have extensive experience in the development of distributed systems. The training was focused not only on theory, but also on solving practical problems – undergraduates conducted research within the framework of existing projects of companies.
After graduating from the master’s degree, graduates will be able to create their own blockchain-based projects. In addition, they were given the opportunity to take a paid internship at Newity, which also became a partner of the program. They will practice in international blockchain projects. Successful trainees will be offered an employment contract.
“Judging by the first graduates of our master’s program, blockchain is of great interest to students. The course turned out to be relevant and rich. We will improve the curriculum and attract colleagues from Russia and abroad for cooperation, ”Gorgadze commented, announcing the enrollment of students for the 2021 and 2022 academic years.
In 2019, the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the University of Malta also launched master and postgraduate blockchain courses.
