Some 87 migrants were rescued by volunteers from Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on Wednesday (10). A video released by the non-profit organization showed dozens of migrants jumping into the sea from an overcrowded boat.

MSF posted on X that the migrants told rescuers they would rather die at sea than return to Libya. All those on board the boat were rescued and taken to the Geo Barents ship, the organization added in a separate post on the social network.
The United Nations has recorded more than 20,000 deaths and disappearances in the central Mediterranean since 2014, making the migrant crossing the most dangerous in the world.
Italy has called on Tunisia and Libya to do more to stop would-be migrants from crossing the sea. It has also cracked down on rescue ship operations, saying they encourage people to choose Europe as their destination – a move charities deny.
