Vienna attack: searches carried out in Germany

The investigation into the Vienna bombing crosses borders. Searches were indeed launched on Friday, November 6, 2020 in homes and offices in Germany, police said. The searches are taking place in three localities in the north-west of the country, Osnabrück, Kassel and Pinneberg, inside premises belonging to people who “are not suspected of being involved in the attack,” said the Federal Office of the German Criminal Police on Twitter. The authorities specify that “there may be links with the alleged killer.” The operation was launched at the request of the Austrian authorities, said the same source.

According to the German magazine Spiegel, the assailant, a 20-year-old Austro-Macedonian, had made contacts in Germany when he tried to reach Syria in 2018 to join the ranks of fighters from the Islamic State (IS) group. Investigations are also being carried out in Switzerland, where two men aged 18 and 24 were arrested this week. They were known to the courts for criminal proceedings linked to terrorism.

Four dead

Twenty-year-old man Kujtim Fejzulai, who opened fire on Monday evening in the city center of the Austrian capital, killed four people and left several injured.
