Volodymyr Zelensky: Only with total protection of our skies, Russia will stop the war

Over ten million Ukrainians are deprived of electricity, announced the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky during his night sermon yesterday late Thursday night (17/11).

“As we speak, more than ten million Ukrainians do not have electricity,” especially in the Kyiv region, the head of state said in a video message broadcast on his social media pages.

Zelenskiy maintained that state agencies are doing everything in their power to restore electricity supply to residents of the regions, but called for greater security to avoid further attacks on his country’s infrastructure.

In fact, he said that during the day Ukrainian forces shot down six cruise missiles and five Iranian-made UAVs. “Unfortunately, however, they were not the only ones launched by Russian terrorists. We emphasize again to our allies and partners that only the total protection of Ukrainian skies will protect Ukraine and Europe from the escalation of Russian aggression, and only then will Russia decide to stop the war.”.

Several Ukrainian cities, including the capital, were hit by its army yesterday of Russia, which coincided with the first snowfalls in the country. Power outages were recorded while temperatures were expected to drop as low as -10°C.

Repeated Russian bombings have targeted energy infrastructure in Ukraine since October, facing frequent power and water outages for millions of citizens.

Ukrenergo, the national operator of the electricity grid, announced yesterday that the outages would be extended for at least a day due to the “deterioration of the situation”.

At the same time, due to the “sharp drop in temperature, electricity consumption increased in regions of Ukraine”, which “further complicates the already difficult situation in the system” and leads to “wider restrictions” on consumption throughout the country.
