“Volta Por Cima”: 7 o’clock soap opera will have a black family as protagonists

Strong characteristic in Claudia Souto’s novels, “Come Back” will make a point of demonstrating diversity in its cast and history. To star in the plot, the author selected black actors.

This way, it will be the Souza family that will be highlighted. Composed of Madalena (Jessica Ellen), Tati (Bia Santana), Doralice (Tereza Seiblitz) and Beautiful (MV Bill), they will represent the daily lives of thousands of Brazilians, who wake up early and get their hands dirty to earn a living.

This will be the first protagonist of Jessica Ellen which has been on TV Globo for over ten years. Besides her, Fabrício Boliveira will be at the forefront of history with John an honest, hard-working man, who will have a romance with Madá.

Still in the main cast, the plot will feature Amaury Lorenzo actor who will play Chico the protagonist’s fiancé, who will push things with his belly, while living an affair with Roxelle (Isadora Cruz).

During the press conference for “Volta Por Cima”, which was attended by CNN Jéssica Ellen celebrated the black presence in the network’s soap operas. “We are living in a very happy moment on television, in audiovisual and in drama in general. It’s something that has been built for a long time,” he said.

“I have been working at TV Globo for 12 years and, for the first time, I am playing my soap opera protagonist. Good thing the Dudley [Santos] who is younger than me, is already playing her first protagonist. This certifies that this change is being built”, the actress further stated, in reference to the next 6pm soap opera, “Girl of the Moment” which will also star a black artist.

Brazilian diversity

However, Claudia Souto intends to go even deeper. In her new story, the author aims to represent all Brazilians, giving space to other regions of the country.

Even though it was not foreseen in the script, Claudia allowed actors like Juliano Cazarré and Adanilo add their own origins to the characters. While Jayme will be a gaucho, Sydney It will be an Amazonian.

“Their availability was a gift [Juliano e Adanilo] to bring their genuine culture to the soap opera. It wasn’t something that was planned, but I was already planning this look at Brazil”, stated the author during the press conference. “They both have poetic license for the text, because I ask people to improvise as little as possible.”

“But expressions are super welcome. As a Rio native, I would have to do a lot of research to get to this, which they naturally have”, he added.

Author history

This is not the first time that Claudia Souto has invested in diversity. In 2022, the author aired — also at 7 o’clock — the soap opera “Face and Courage” starring Taís Araújo , Paulo Lessa and Icaro Silva .

In order to escape the stereotype created by many stories in television drama, in addition to highlighting black characters, Claudia made them part of a millionaire family, successful and full of power.
