Volunteering as an intangible asset of humanity Unesco. The candidacy was presented to the Senate of the Republic and supported by a promoting committee led by the vice president of the Constitutional Court Giuliano Amato. It is the final act of the journey he has seen Padova fill the role of European capital of volunteering, the first Italian city to receive this recognition.
The candidacy starts from our country, but it is transnational, «and we will continue to start immediately collaborations with major European networks in order to jointly initiate the candidacy for UNESCO ”, is written in the official note released by the press office of Padua, the European capital of volunteering.
«It will be the task of each country to work on a dossier that complies with the form provided for intangible candidacies for UNESCO. The material prepared by each country will become a single document that will be delivered to UNESCO in support of this symbolic, but very current candidacy ».
Emanuele Alecci, president of Padua, the European capital of volunteering, explains that “this candidacy is intended as an opportunity for a great campaign of promotion of volunteering throughout Italy. In this painful period we have once again understood its importance, and for this reason we believe it is important to promote the values of this free and disinterested practice ».
In Italy they are 6.3 million active volunteers, of which 4.14 engaged in structured organizations. The highest rate (16%) is recorded in Northern Italy, which reaches an almost double percentage compared to the southern regions (8.6%). For the promoting committee, made up of personalities from the world of the Third Sector, journalism and volunteering, it is «an incredible force and authentic engine of our society. A social network animated by extensive volunteering, essential to build that change in the priorities of our civil life so as not to be unprepared for the new social demands and to guarantee the quality of our democracy increasingly in need of education for the common good».
