Vote on the rapporteur’s amendments in the STF and later on November 9th

Supreme votes on budget rapporteur amendments, impeachment process in Chile and fuel adjustment are among the highlights of 5 Fatos Tarde this Tuesday, November 9, 2021.

PEC of Precatório

Justice Rosa Weber, from the Federal Supreme Court (STF), denied the requests to suspend the processing of the PEC do Precatórios. One of the requests denied by the minister is from federal deputy Rodrigo Maia, who, in an interview with CNN, said the changes to the text have no legal basis. The minister, however, claims that the matter is an act of competence of the Legislative. The second round of voting on the base text takes place today in the Chamber of Deputies.

STF voting

The STF begins voting in the virtual plenary of action against amendments by the Budget rapporteur. The actions filed by opposition parties claim that public resources have been used by the government as a bargaining chip in negotiating with Congress. While the vote is taking place, the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and the minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira, plan to talk with the ministers of the Court to clarify the amendments and win votes in the plenary. Votes can be registered until tomorrow.

Food prices must retreat

The long-awaited relief in the supermarket’s price is expected to arrive in the coming months. According to data released by the Broad Producer Price Index (IPA) in October, the forecast is for deflation in the price of beef and chicken, in addition to other items in the Brazilian basic food basket.

High in fuels

The price of gasoline, diesel and bottled gas rose again in the last week. This is the fifth consecutive week of increase and, in some parts of the country, a liter of gasoline is sold for R$7.99. The data are from the National Petroleum Agency (ANP).

Impeachment process in Chile

With 78 votes in favour, 67 against and 3 abstentions, the Chamber of Chile approves the opening of a constitutional indictment, which is equivalent to a request for impeachment, against President Sebastián Piñera, after 20 hours of discussions. The request came after Piñera’s name appeared in the journalistic investigation Pandora Papers. The indictment has yet to be considered by the Senate.
