Wanessa Camargo says she was bullied for being poor: “Nepo baby more or less”

In a new interview conducted on Wednesday (10), the singer Wanessa Camargo, 41, reflected on being called “nepo baby” for being the daughter of Zeze Di Camargo . The artist highlighted that “I’ve been through a lot of trouble” before stardom and even suffered bullying at school for being poor.

The term “nepo baby” exploded in 2022 and is an abbreviation of the expression “nepotism baby”. By definition, nepotism, as defined by the Houaiss dictionary, is the favoritism of relatives, especially by public authorities. Following this line, the term “nepo baby” refers to a new generation of celebrities who have achieved a place in the industry more easily because they already have very active parents within it.

“I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth, no, despite what people think,” said Wanessa Camargo on the Podcats podcast, Camila Loures and Lucas Guimarães.

“I know what it’s like to struggle. I saw my parents struggling. I remember celebrating when the fridge was full. I remember being bullied at school because I was poor. I remember that whole moment. And then there was this ‘fairy tale’ created about my life, which, in fact, is not a fairy tale at all! My father was a Messiah within the family. With his talent, he managed to change the lives of a huge family.”

According to her, the family’s financial situation improved when she was nine years old. “I’m more or less a nepo baby,” she said.
