War in Ukraine: Hibernian supporters arrange to transport 52 orphans to Scotland

A group of 52 Ukrainian orphans who escaped from him war in their country is going to arrive tomorrow at Great Britain. Children and young people, aged two to 19, and their carers will fly out of it Poland in London.

Priti Patel, the UK Home Secretary, announced last week that the young children are being cared for by the Scottish charity Dnipro Kids, which was founded by fans of the Scottish football team Hibernian, received the authorization to travel to Britain. The flight was scheduled to land today (22/3) in the English capital, but bureaucratic problems delayed it.

The orphans are expected to spend a day in London sightseeing and then head to Edinburgh, where they will enjoy a welcome meal at Hibernian’s Easter Road, before traveling to the province of Sterlingshire, where they will start their new life.

Steven Carr, president of the charity that led the effort to evacuate orphans from Lviv in western Ukraine, said the organization’s executives “are grateful and relieved that we are leading the children to the safety of the United Kingdom and Scotland”.

He added: “We have known these children and their caregivers for many years and when they said they wanted to leave, we were determined to help. The help we had from the other charities was very important for us and we wanted to give our thanks “.

Carr also thanked the governments of the United Kingdom, Poland and Ukraine for the “relentless work” of Scottish National Party leader Ian Blackford, who played a role in transporting the children. Carr said the politician “helped overcome difficulties.” “For me, a Hibernian fan, this initiative is a source of great pride,” Blackford said.
