War in Ukraine – Macron: Russia is in the process of disconnecting from the rest of the world

Against Russia that continues the war in Ukraine turns the French president, Emmanuel Macron underlining “is in the process of disconnecting from the rest of the world”.

According to the French president, this development is primarily due to the difficulties that Russia is now facing, both at the military, economic and diplomatic level. In the military because the Ukrainian army is recovering territories, in the economic because it is subject to heavy economic sanctions and in the diplomatic because many countries, among them China and India, are now in favor of the cessation of hostilities.

During an interview with a French television station, shortly before leaving the UN meeting in New York, Emmanuel Macron emphasized that “our duty is to stay on the same line”that is, to provide aid to Ukraine and to put pressure on it Russia in order to find a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian issue based on respect for the integrity of Ukraine. Asked about Putin’s statements about the use of “all means” by Russia if threatened, the French president said that he does not enter into discussions about a possible escalation of the war to the nuclear level, stressing that his goal is “logic” that leads to the achievement of peace.

Regarding energy problems, the French president recognized that there is “imported precision” in France due to external risks and called on both the public and private sectors to move in the direction of energy saving, without, however, as he said, “compromising the our way of life”.

The French president also said that Europe and the US are in consultations and initiatives aimed at setting international energy prices at some reasonable levels. Finally, referring to the question of reforming France’s pension system, the French president was clearly in favor of a gradual increase in the retirement age.

Emmanuel Macron stated that he wishes to upgrade the systems of health, education and environmental protection, underlining that for this purpose additional costs are required which cannot arise in the case of France either from an increase in debts or from an increase in taxation. Therefore, the French president continued, he needs an increase in wealth which can be achieved by increasing the retirement age, while recalling that in his country the retirement thresholds are among the lowest in Europe.
