The Council of EU approved today the fourth tranche, amounting to 500 million euros, to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The EU has already approved three tranches of support totaling € 1.5 billion this year. The fourth tranche will add EUR 500 million to the reimgs already mobilized under the European Peace Facility (EPF) for Ukraine, bringing the total to EUR 2 billion. The aim is to further support the capabilities and resilience of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to defend the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and to protect the civilian population from the ongoing Russian military offensive.
“The history of tomorrow is being written today, on the battlefields of Ukraine. With this EUR 500 million, the EU has allocated a total of EUR 2 billion to support the supply of military equipment of the EU Member States to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This support is only part of Europe ‘s efforts to help Ukraine to defend. The EU and its Member States are determined to continue. “We did it from the beginning of the war and we will continue to do so until the end,” said Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The range of equipment to be provided in the new support package is in line with current priorities, as expressed by the Ukrainian government. In this light, the assistance measures amount to EUR 490 million for military equipment designed to provide lethal force for defense purposes, as well as EUR 10 million to cover the supply of equipment and supplies, such as personal protective equipment, kits first aid, and fuel reports the APE-MPE.
