Kiev troops will train on German-made Leopard tanks in Poland, an “important decision” reached during the allies’ meeting in Ramstein, Ukraine’s defense minister said.
Oleksii Reznikov emphasized in an interview with the Ukrainian service of Voice of America that soldiers belonging to the country’s armored groups will soon begin training.
So far, the tanks have not been offered by Germany, but Reznikov said he was “very satisfied” with Friday’s outcome and that “some new packages were agreed but not announced.”
“We’ll start with those and go from there,” he said. “I have the hope that Germany in a calm pace of internal deliberations will come to the decision that the transfer of tanks is possible. I see this with optimism.”
