Warm up the car without leaving home: Volvo plans to integrate Google voice assistant

Yesterday, January 13, representatives of Volvo Cars officially announced that the car company will be the first in the world to provide direct integration of its vehicles with devices that support the voice assistant Google Assistant – a first step towards global cooperation between Volvo and Google. Accordingly, when the technologies are integrated into the cars of the brand, the user will receive an impressive set of possibilities – the vehicle can be remotely controlled using a variety of voice commands via home or mobile devices.

For the foreseeable future, Volvo car owners will be able to connect their vehicle to a Google account, after which many daily tasks can be performed via voice command. For example, the manufacturer said that the car can be warmed up without leaving home – it will be enough to launch the voice assistant Google Assistant, and then give him the command to warm up the car. Or the user may not even take the keys out of his pocket to close or open the door locks – this can be done even from home if the car enthusiast forgot to close the doors manually.

In addition, which is quite expected, the user with the help of the voice assistant will receive the necessary information about his car without the need for additional manipulations. For example, you can find out the battery charge level remotely, set up a charging schedule (in some countries, at certain night hours, the cost of electricity is half as much) and stuff like that. The list of supported features and capabilities is constantly expanding, so that electric vehicles, and only those Volvo plans to produce in the future, will become smarter and smarter.

Volvo also worried about the user’s safety when using the voice assistant – some of the car’s functions can be used simply by entering voice commands, but to open the door locks or, for example, start the engine, you will need to pass two-factor authentication. This is actually extremely important, since such a protection system prevents unauthorized access to the vehicle – no one except the owner will be able to gain access to control of the car through the assistant’s commands.
