According to the Washington Post, citing well-informed sources, the six-page plan details the warring parties’ commitments. Aerial surveillance of movements in the Palestinian enclave will verify the ceasefire within the stipulated period.
At least 50 of the roughly 240 Hamas hostages to be released in groups every 24 hoursaccording to the draft agreement cited by the American newspaper.
The cessation of hostilities is also intended to allow trucks with humanitarian aid – including fuel – to enter the Palestinian enclave from Egypt.
The Washington Post reports that the US, the Israel and Hamas – the Palestinian Islamist organization that runs it Gaza Strip since 2007 – support the plan under consultation.
In a press conference he gave on Saturday night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied “false reports” of an imminent deal for the release of some of the approximately 240 hostages held in the Gaza Strip, assuring his compatriots that they would be informed if such an agreement were reached.
On their part, the US reports that no agreement has yet been reached between Israel and Hamas, adding that efforts are being made in this direction.
