The President of the United States, Joe Biden, stated, this Wednesday (15), that the country will once again have direct and clear military communication with China, after a meeting with Xi Jinping, leader of the eastern nation, in California.
“We are resuming military communication. As you know, this was interrupted and it is worrying, because accidents happen and disagreements too. Now we will have direct and clear communication. Lack of calculation on both sides can cause problems, with any country or another”, declared Biden.
The two countries have been gradually restoring communications after Beijing severed those ties in August 2022 following a visit by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
Regarding the strait, Biden said he spoke about the issue with Xi, but that there is no consensus on the issue.
“It is also important to talk about peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. Of course, we object to China’s attitude and will continue to deal with it,” she explained.
Beijing recently said it would “show no mercy” against any moves toward Taiwan independence, referring to the autonomous island that China’s ruling Communist Party claims as its own.
